Can a different smell make my guinea pigs mad at eachother?

i washed their blankets with fabric softner today, and ever since then theyve been teeth chattering to eachother, could it because of the smell of their blankets and they don't reconize the smell? also, how can i stop them from teeth chattering? i tried pulling them away and they wont stop.
