If the United States were a true Democracy instead of being a Republic, would the Country be as divided?

First off we the people could give a boot to the Democratic Party, the Republican Party, the Tea Party and all other Political Parties. I think the country would be less divisive, and Lobbyist would have no power of influence, because they would not be able to purchase the votes of 360 Million Americans. I think the country would overwhelmingly vote for Universal Health Care, a Flat Tax Rate, and Clean Energy. We would have better Schools, and there would be not be a need for Unions, because We the People would vote on work conditions, etc.
